John H. Grasso attended the University of Connecticut (B.A., summa cum laude, University and Honors Scholar, 1979), Emory University School of Law (J.D., 1982), and Cornell University ( Labor Relations Studies, 1987). He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. John H. Grasso was admitted to the practice of law in 1982, and is licensed in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Georgia. His principal areas of practice are litigation, business, and estate planning. He is a member of the Elder Law, the Estates and Probate, and the Commercial Law and Bankruptcy sections of the Connecticut Bar Association. He has taught upper division business law courses at the University of Connecticut School of Business as adjunct faculty. Attorney Grasso served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney, District of Alaska 1982-1985, and as a military prosecutor as a member of the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the United States Army 1982-1988.

John H. Grasso was commissioned as an officer of the United States Army from the R.O.T.C. program at the University of Connecticut (Distinguished Military Student), and has served in either active or reserve duty status continuously since 1979. He holds the rank of Colonel. His present duty assignment is as the State Judge Advocate of the Connecticut National Guard. He is a graduate of numerous military programs, to include the United States Army Command and General Staff College and the Joint Forces Staff College of the National Defense University.

Attorney Grasso serves as a Vice President and Director of the charitable nonprofit RHAM Education Foundation, Inc. and a Director of the charitable nonprofit Connecticut National Guard Foundation, Inc. He serves as a member of the Marlborough, Connecticut Zoning Board of Appeals and the Economic Development Commission. His past community service includes two terms as a member of the Region 8 Board of Education, and service on the Conservation (Inland Wetlands) Commission. John H. Grasso is a longtime hike leader of the Connecticut Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club, and he is a longtime adult leader with the Boy Scouts of America, having served as a Scoutmaster twice, and now serving as an Assistant Scoutmaster.
